  Ran across an article on a CB radio site about the Yaesu FT-60R being under $200 bucks now at Amazon at WannabeeHams that I found rather interesting. It would seem that the "freebanders" are now modifying VHF/UHF radio equipment as well to make them work on other bands.

Portable clock radios are a much needed item around the farm here. Since we run everything on generator most of the time, it is nice to have a way to wake up in the morning without running the generator and batteries all nightlong just to wake up.

 For me the main thing that I look for in a portable clock radio is rechargeable batteries that I can charge up with a solar panel or hand crank.
 Some of the other items I like is a semi rugged case and a big display, and AM/FM with Shortwave and NOAA weather channels. The size is not too important, as long as it fits on my night stand.
